MA. ADEP. UKCP reg. MBACP accred.

“All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.”

Henry Ellis

My extensive experience working in health, social care and academic settings, has been based on my therapeutic work with clients expressing various mental health issues, as well as managing painful life events such as separation, job loss, bereavement or illness. I also see counselling as cultivating health and wellbeing by building upon clients’ skills, insight and aspirations. I have worked and trained as a psychotherapist in NHS (Psychological therapies service) and community counselling agencies, such as MIND. In addition to brief and long term therapy, my work has included therapy assessments, practical advice and coaching, workshops, and referrals to other support agencies. I have also worked as a psychotherapist in Arbours crisis centre in North London and in UK universities as a counsellor with young and mature trainees and students. I currently supervise trainee therapists, and have authored published work.

I have completed a Masters degree in integrative Psychotherapy & Counselling, and an Advanced postgraduate Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy (reg. by UKCP) following my undergraduate studies in Psychology and in Fine Art. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Code of Ethics (to be found at: bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework). My integrative training in psychotherapy has been informed by existential philosophy and mindfulness and has been based on diverse academic and professional experiences including phenomenological, psychoanalytical, humanistic and CBT approaches to therapy.

My belief is that no single therapeutic philosophy works for everyone as we are all different experiencing similar life issues in our unique ways, and I always intent to adapt my approach to individual need and urgency. Counselling and psychological research (1) shows that the quality of the professional relationship between therapist and client is the essential factor towards a fruitful counselling experience. My journey as a therapist started when I went to see a university counsellor in my early twenties while I was studying psychology. My professional development is based upon my own life experiences and my understanding of myself in relation to our world; therefore I view my personal therapy, professional supervision and other mind & body activities - such as yoga, nature, literature and films - as important parts of the development and quality of my work as a psychotherapist and counsellor.
